Victim identified in deadly Ben Hill wreck

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - The Ben Hill County Sheriff confirmed Monday that one person died in one of two wrecks in Fitzgerald.

The first accident happened on U.S. Hwy. 319 and involved three vehicles. One person was killed and others were said to be injured.

22-year-old Jimmy Lee Bowman died on the way to the hospital after the crash, not far from his home on Camp Brooklyn Road.

The pickup truck he was in ran the stop sign at the intersection and collided with two other pickups.

Two people were airlifted to a hospital in Macon. Three others were treated at the Dorminey Medical Center in Fitzgerald.

Sheriff Bobby McLemore said the wreck happened before 4:40 p.m. but did not know exactly when.

Several ambulances and crews were dispatched to the scene.

While responding to that wreck, the Sheriff said he came across a second wreck at the 4-way stop on the bypass. At least one person was injured in that wreck.

The wrecks were said to be unrelated.
