AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - One man is dead, and his girlfriend is in jail charged with murder. Police say he was killed Sunday night in an argument.
Just before 9:00 p.m. Sunday, Americus Police officers and emergency medical personnel went to a house on Ridge Street, after a report of a stabbing.
They found 32-year-old Courtney Antwan Jackson, who lives on Tom Hall Circle in Americus, with two severe stab wounds to his upper body. He was transported to Phoebe Sumter Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police arrested 42-year-old Lashonda Terry, who lives in the house on Ridge Street, and charged her with one count of murder. She is being held at the Sumter Law Enforcement Center.
"Any violence or death of any citizen within our community is troubling to us especially when the parties are known to each other, for anything that we could've done to help prevent this," said Americus Police Interim Chief Herman Lamar.
Neighbors said the couple moved into the home last Thursday.
The district attorney's office is working closely with police and will work to figure out what led to the stabbing.
