ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Johnny Collins was minding his business about 12:30 today. He was installing cable for Bigham Cable Construction outside this CVS on Westover Boulevard when he noticed an 81-year-old woman get her purse snatched.

"I just did what I felt like needed to be done," said Collins. "I was sitting here working, and I thought about what if that were my money? Here's an old lady that is helpless. I just wanted to try to help her."

Collins chased down thief and recovered the lady' purse. She gave him 5 dollars as a reward, but he didn't do it for any reward.

"God just had me at the right place at the right time. And he spared me to be able to live and talk to you all about it."

He said it wasn't the first time he felt God's presence.  Recently he was on the other end of a crime, held at gunpoint by a robber.

"While I was laying there, I just started praying to God thinking about my life might end, how I was at the mercy of a gunman, and how hard I worked for my money for somebody just to take it like that."

Collins wasn't going to let it happen to the defenseless woman, and his co-worker was proud of his heroics.

"You never know," said Leroy Lockhart. "You could end up losing your own life trying to help somebody else. It just so happen it come out better, he recovered the lady'ss purse and came back and everybody was happy."

"Now one man finna go to jail probably 10 years for a snatch robbery when all he had to do was go cut some grass," reminded Collins.
