WILCOX CO., GA (WALB) - GBI agents say the 17-year-old suspect shot by a deputy Monday morning is Tyler Miller.
Authorities say Miller and 19-year-old Nacarious West broke into the Planter's First Bank in Pineview around 3:30 Monday morning. Deputy Justin Campbell responded to the scene and caught the two teens as they were leaving the bank.
Agents say Campbell shot Miller after thinking he was reaching for a gun. Miller has been released from the hospital and booked on burglary charges.
Investigators say West ran the other way and dropped the bucket of change.
Both of the thieves are from nearby Hawkinsville.
"We gathered so far that they just happened to be in the area to visit somebody and it was just a spur of the moment they decided to do it while they were there," said Investigator Steve Mauldin with the Wilcox County Sheriff's Office.
West was caught several hours later after neighbors called 911 and said they saw someone walking on the side of the road.
Investigators say he is cooperating.
Authorities initially said they were looking for a 22-year-old suspect. He has now been cleared from the case as it appears that he loaned his car to the two suspects without knowledge of the crime.
Campbell remains on the job as the GBI investigates the shooting.
