TIFTON, GA (WALB) - AARP tax aide counselors at the Tifton-Tift County Library have helped over forty people file their 2016 tax returns and they expect to file over two hundred returns by the April 18th deadline.

Joyce Parker is the site supervisor for the Tifton location. She has been assisting people with their tax returns for fourteen years. She describes the experience as satisfying.

Parker says, "You feel like when you go home at night after you've worked all day…that you have done something to help your community. It's a wonderful feeling."

The AARP tax aide program is designed to help those who are over the age of fifty or those with low income. Tifton residents can make an appointment to have their taxes prepared for free by calling the public library at 229-386-7148.

Although AARP is a national organization, Parker says it takes the local community to make it a successful program.

The Tifton-Tift County Library donates the space for the counselors to use to file the taxes, the volunteer counselors are all local residents, and a copier was donated by Ashley Business Solutions.
