Red Cross honors Lee County officials

LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

The Red Cross honored Lee County leaders for their response to and leadership during recent flooding.
The Southwest Georgia Chapter gave certificates of appreciation to four Lee County officials who helped with disaster relief operations.
Red Cross leaders say they're all about partnering with local officials.

"Making sure that those mutual aids for those families that are faced with disaster events and so it's very good to know our resources and it's very good to have that communication that way we know how to serve our public,” said Nature Malone, Disaster Lead Specialist with the Southwest Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross.

They presented certificates of appreciation to Zoning Administrator Marcia Studley, Planning and Zoning Director Matthew Inman, Public Safety Director Bobby Watkins, and EMA Director James Howell.

    Monday went quickly for jurors in this case.  The judge dismissed them around noon, after one of the eye-witnesses who is behind bars refused to go to the trial.

    Preliminary investigations revealed the female victim fell from a billboard while conducting routine maintenance, and suffered fatal injury, according to Lowndes County Coroner Austin J. Fiveash.

    Health officials are urging you to be careful around wildlife and stray animals, after a South Georgia family was attacked by a fox with rabies. This happened last Thursday on Cotton Avenue in Lake Park. A man and his dog were attacked by the fox when they went outside their house. Lowndes County animal service employees said the fox's test came back positive for Rabies. "Once someone really becomes infected with the rabies virus and it develops into the disease.
