THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

Mayor Linda Harris of Meigs turned herself in to the Thomas County Jail this afternoon after she was charged with using city money for a Christmas party.

She's accused of spending over $130 on the city's credit card on a Christmas party in December.

Investigators say she said she had no idea she wasn't allowed to use the city's card for the party.

"She never denied using the card,"said Investigator Louis Schofil. "She admits it was her that made the purchases on the card, she simply was under the impression that she was allowed to do it."

Mayor Harris is charged with three counts of financial transaction card fraud and one count of violation of oath of office.

Her bond was set at $12,500. Investigators say she'll be released today.
