(WALB) -

Almost 30 percent of the people serving time in Georgia prisons will return behind bars after they are set free, because they commit crimes again.

Georgia prisons cost more than $1 billion dollars each year to keep people locked up, so it is important to everyone in the state to help inmates make good on their second chance.

But one new prison program is training inmates to get good paying jobs when they get out, and stay out of prison.

Tonight at 6:00. meet an inmate who is the first in this pilot program, in our special report "Second Chance."
