ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Runners came out to support the fight against childhood cancer in Albany on Saturday. The third annual Love Run 5K and mile run kicked off in the morning at Wild Side Running.
Proceeds from the race went towards the Pay it Forward foundation and Jay's Hope Foundation. Both foundations will help families with children battling cancer.
The money doesn't go towards research or medical expenses, but is used for everyday costs that may come up.
"That could be helping with bill payment, travel expenses that families incur going to treatment," said race organizer Maranda Wright. "We've paid for funerals, all sorts of things."
The Wrights started the race in honor of their son Ward, who is a cancer survivor.
All of the money raised helps families in the Albany area.
