Pound of pot, hundreds of pills; 2 arrested in Lowndes

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

About 10:00 Thursday night, a Lowndes County deputy pulled over a Toyota Camry traveling north on I-75 at 88 miles per hour.

The deputy noticed the smell of marijuana in the car, and then learned the driver, Jacari Vereen, had no drivers license.

Deputies found a duffel bag in the car, which the passenger, Nathan Hillmon claimed as his. Inside the bag, deputies found approximately a pound of marijuana, 187 Alprazolam, and 87 Oxycodone tablets. These are both prescription medications which neither man had a prescription for.

Jacari Trevon Vereen, 20, of Somerset Drive in Lauderdale, FL., is charged with Driving with no license, and Speeding.

Nathan Moses Hillmon, 20, of North West 14th Avenue, in Dania, FL., is charged with Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute Possession of a schedule II drug, Oxycodone, Possession of a schedule IV drug, Alprazolam.

Both were taken to the Lowndes County Jail and will appear in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court for an arraignment hearing this afternoon.

Alprazolam, a schedule IV narcotic commonly known by as Xanax, and is used for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Oxycodone, a schedule II drug is a semisynthetic opioid and is often prescribed for relief of moderate to severe pain.

Sheriff Chris Prine said "This is a perfect example of our continued effort to fight the distribution of illegal narcotics. Intercepting this pair and the investigation by the deputies was a great job and prevented these drugs from ever making it to the street. We hope stopping the drugs here interrupted a drug dealers operation somewhere."
