ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An East Albany man suffered serious burns early Thursday morning when he fought a fire in his home.

Firefighters say 47 year old Otis Perry was cooking in the kitchen of his Johnson Road mobile home just before 5:00 this morning, when a fire broke out.
Perry suffered serious burns on both his arms fighting that fire.

"He had put the fire out with a blanket.  And when he put the fire out with a blanket, the blanket melted and thus in the process he received first and second degree burns," said Albany Fire Investigator Sam Harris.

Perry was taken to the hospital by ambulance, treated and released, and is being cared for by family. Most of the fire damage was contained to the kitchen.
