CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Parts of Pecan Street and 6th Avenue were closed because of high water in Cordele Wednesday.

Water was flowing over several roads Wednesday evening, including the intersection of Georgia Highway 90 and Lakeview Drive

The area received more than three and a half inches of rain Wednesday.

Sheriff and EMA Director Billy Hancock wants drivers to be careful when driving through wet conditions.

"One thing that people don't realize is that once the rain stops, the water is going to continue to rise for a while, so as it goes down on the east side of the county, the middle of the county will rise on the roadways and creeks and then it will move on to the west side," said Sheriff Hancock.

More than a dozen roads had water over them Wednesday throughout Crisp County.
