Driver found with gunshot wound in Crisp Co. wreck

CRISP CO., GA (WALB) -

Officials have confirmed that a car ran into a tree in Crisp Co. on Highway 41 near the fairgrounds just outside Cordele. 

The driver died in the in the incident and was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head.

Crisp County deputies, EMS and Fire Rescue crews responded to the wreck around 7:20 p.m.

According to the Crisp County Sheriff's Office, a A Dodge pick-up truck had crashed into a tree. After officials located the driver inside the vehicle, they discovered the driver had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Officials are not yet able to determine if the gun was fired before or after the crash. 

"We have investigators en route to talk to some of the family to see if we can see what might have happened or what type of mind set the individual was in," explained Sheriff Billy Hancock.

According to Sheriff Hancock, the investigation will continue through the night.
