MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - Six people have bilked insurance companies out of almost half a million dollars, by staging fires and burglaries.
Kanaya McGee, Ricky Forrest, Diana McGee, Cachea Jones, Lvarius King, and Doris Ann Buie were all arrested Wednesday morning.
All were arrested in Colquitt County, except Buie, who was arrested in Clayton county. All are in Colquitt county jail now.
They are facing charges of first degree arson, insurance fraud, theft by deception, identity fraud, forgery, and making false statements.
Investigators say from January 2013 through December 2015, the suspects have collected thousands of dollars in insurance by staging house fires, apartment fires, residential burglaries, and vandalizing vehicles. These came to light after an investigation by the Moultrie Fire Department.
"Not only did these individuals endanger the lives of others by setting fires, they also committed insurance fraud, a crime that costs Georgians thousands of dollars each year," Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said. "I'm proud of the work done by my office and Colquitt County's fire and law enforcement
professionals to bring these individuals to justice."
They have collected about $400,000 in fraudulent claims.
