Editorial: Albany Technical College's GOAL winner

The 2016 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership, or GOAL, winner for Albany Technical College was announced recently during the Albany Rotary Club luncheon.

During a banquet held in November, twelve nominees for GOAL were presented.

The final six GOAL nominees were then interviewed by a panel comprised by the Albany Chamber of Commerce.

An Albany radio disc jockey has been named Albany Technical College's GOAL winner. Kozman Barnum, an Environmental Horticulture student, wants to open his own landscaping business after he graduates.

Barnum wants to work alongside city officials to redesign and beautify the city he calls home.

"This whole process has been a blessing for me from beginning to end and it's not over with yet. This is actually just the beginning," said Barnum.

Barnum has a chance to win the Southern Regional GOAL Award in March, then the State GOAL award in April.

The state winner is the official spokesperson for technical education in Georgia for 2016.

Please take the time to watch the presentations by the finalists we have posted on our website.

They are great examples of the value of technical education, and what a valuable service is provided to our community by Albany Technical College.
