Two men arrested after trying to sell stolen guns

CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Two brothers went to Crisp County authorities and claimed that men from Cordele robbed them.

Their story unraveled, and they ended up being charged with crimes in Sumter County, and are now in jail.

Michael Wilson is charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.

Stephen Wilson is charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm During The Commission of or Attempt to Commit Certain Felonies, Criminal Damage to Property 1st Degree, and Reckless Endangerment.

Police say that he broke into a neighbor's house in the 500 bock of Brady Road, by shooting a .22 pistol through the door to get in. There he stole two AR-15s and two pistols. When Michael got home, they arranged a meeting in Cordele to sell them.

A man they called 'Hammer' met them to buy the guns. While they were showing them, a masked man came out of the woods, and then the masked man drove off with the guns in the brothers' truck, which he later ditched in Cordele.

Cordele police executed a search warrant and located one of the stolen guns in Hammer's car that the Wilsons gave him--a .357 Magnum. That gun linked the Wilsons to the burglary in Sumter County.

Stephen Wilson is a suspect in three additional burglaries.

They are both in the Sumter County jail.
