SMITHVILLE, GA (WALB) - Georgia State Troopers say 51-year old Juliette Jones is the passenger that died in a two car wreck Sunday afternoon in Smithville.
Jones was riding in a 2000 Mercury Mystique driven by 72-year old Donna French. Troopers say French turned off of Church Street onto US 19 and pulled out in front of a 1997 Saturn driven by 21-year old Tianna Griffin around 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Two other passengers in French's car are in stable condition—50-year old John Jones and 4-year old Makayla Jones. The child was flown to Macon for observation.
Only Griffin was wearing a seat belt.
"It's incidents like this for the public to realize how important the seat belts are because you have one victim in this crash who was wearing a seat belt, that's okay," said Trooper David Fretwell.
Griffin is pregnant and is being held overnight at Phoebe Sumter but is in good condition.
French is charged with failure to yield, no seat belt, and improper child restraint.
