Ashburn Police search for robbery suspect

ASHBURN, GA (WALB) - Surveillance video is now available of the armed robbery at Washington Street Meats and Grocery store Friday night. Ashburn Police responded to the robbery on the 800 block of West Washington St.

According to officials, about 9:30 p.m., a white male was seen on surveillance approaching the building and putting on a mask.

A husband and wife, owners of the store, were closing up for the night when the man approached the counter and demanded money. The man was armed with what may have actually been a paint ball gun. Police say even though it appeared to be a paintball gun, they're determined to arrest him.

"When you look down the barrel of a gun, you can't tell a difference. Paintball guns can still do damage," said Investigator Clifford Jordan. "This guy definitely needs to be caught before he's hurt or he hurts someone else."

The robber got away with about $1,250 in cash and left the scene on foot. He may have made a getaway in a nearby truck that was spotted a short distance from the store earlier.

Police are looking for a white male, last seen wearing a camouflage print coat and pants, paintball mask, and tan baseball cap. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 190 pounds.

Authorities tried to track the robber with dogs for several hours that night, but had no luck. If anyone has information on the whereabouts of the robbery suspect, you're asked to call the Ashburn Police Department at 229-567-2323.
