ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Miss Albany Scholarship Pageant will take place on Saturday, January 30, at 6:00 p.m. inside the Albany Municipal Auditorium.

The contest serves as a preliminary to the Miss Georgia competition which takes place in Columbus, Georgia, later this year.

Organizers say local involvement is crucial for the success of the pageant which is made up largely of community volunteers. The scholarships offered to the winners are also funded by local donors.

Miss Albany 2015 Reedi Hawkins says, "As Miss Albany this has been the warmest title I've ever had and the community has really embraced the return. We have had a lot of people come out and be supportive of the pageant, both financially and in terms of volunteerism. Just in offering support and help."
