ALBANY, GA (WALB) - State House Democrats announced that expanding Medicaid continues to be one of their top legislative priorities.
They hope that passing the Expand Medicaid NOW Act will provide nearly 500,000 Georgians access to healthcare.
Phoebe Putney's Senior Vice President of Government Relations, Thomas Chambliss, believes it will be a good thing if it passed.
"From the perspective of a hospital in an area that has currently a Medicaid population double that percentage wise double that of the state as a whole," said Thomas Chambliss, Phoebe Putney Senior Vice President and Government Relations. "There has to be a benefit there."
Democrats say the Medicaid expansion could create 56,000 jobs over the next seven years. Governor Deal says expanding Medicaid would be too costly for Georgia.
