Deer collisions increase amid colder weather

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Deer collisions continue to be a big problem in South Georgia, and the numbers are up.

Body shop owners say it is unusually late for so many deer collisions, but many have seen an increase in collisions with the cold weather setting in.

Even police officers have been involved with accidents with deer while patrolling local roads.

The Dougherty County Police had one of their patrol cars hit by a deer.

Notice the dents are on the side, not the front of the car, meaning the deer ran into the car.

Officers say South Georgians should be aware that deer continue to be a danger in the road.

Dougherty County Police had two of their patrol car fleet get repairs this week because of deer collisions.

They say for the amount of miles their officers drive everyday, that is understandable, but still a concern.

Plantation Collision Center's manager said today they have had five cars brought into his shop this week from deer collisions, and are seeing no slow down in those crashes.
