Shelves are empty and gas pumps are covered up at the Ashburn Neighborhood Walmart that is set to close this week, just one year after it opened.
Walmart has turned the building over to their realtors.
City officials said that one business owner came to them with a plan to open a grocery store in the building, but he hasn't had any luck reaching the right people with Walmart.
One shopper said he hopes that plan works out.
"I hate it's closing because it would be nice for someone to get the building because it would be good for businesses around here, the economy. And it's in a nice spot," said resident Hiawatha Parker.
The Ashburn store and six others in South Georgia will close on Thursday.
