Albany man on trial for armed robbery of two stores

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Jury selection began Monday in the trial of an Albany man charged with robbing two convenience stores, as part of a gang initiation.

Prosecutors say on November 14, 2014, Westbrook and Tometrius King robbed the Mini Mart on Stuart Avenue and Brothers Convenience Store on Newton Road at gunpoint within an hour of each other.

Prosecutors say Westbrook was a member of the Gangster Disciples and he had King take part in the robberies as part of King's gang initiation.

King already pled guilty to several armed robbery, aggravated assault, and gun charges and was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison.
