ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Ten professional weightlifters are now new members of the Albany Weightlifting Hall of Fame.

Hundreds of people attended this year's banquet at the historical Nelson-Tift building in downtown Albany.

The men honored were recognized for their accomplishments, mentorship, and inspiration to others in the gym.

Founding board member Ben Lockett said he hopes events like this inspire others.

"It's a wonderful thing for young people," said Lockett.  "It's a wonderful thing for a community.  It gives young people an outlet, which is a major issue today."

1976 Olympian Silver medalist Lee James was one of the featured speakers.

All proceeds from the event will go to the American Heart Association.
