SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) - Sylvester city leaders hope improvements to their farmers market will attract more people to town. The city received a $94,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Sylvester is serving as a mentor to Arlington, as that city also establishes its first farmers market. The two cities meet weekly to discuss strategies and plans.
The grant also helps with marketing and equipment costs for the Sylvester farmers market.
"That's just another added benefit that we have in our downtown to be able to provide those services for people who want fresh, local, homegrown, organic, natural kind of foods," said Main street Director Jana Dyke.
The Sylvester Farmers Market will be open on Saturdays from May until November.
If you're interested in securing a spot at the market, you may call the farmers market at 229-430-7735 or visit their website here.
