Former WALB employee Sam Smith honored in Tifton

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

One of our most beloved former co-workers was honored by the Georgia Peanut Commission today.

They presented Sam Smith with a media award for his more than 50 years of service at WALB, and to the community.

Sam received his award at the farm show luncheon in Tifton today.

He says he was surprised by the honor, but grateful to be recognized.

“I appreciate the fact that other than the people that photographs work with, other people recognize that we do a good job, and a lot of stories are made because the photographer makes the story. So on behalf of Carlton and Eric and all the other photographers out there I appreciate this,” says Sam Smith, who is now retired.

Sam retired last year after 54 years at WALB.

He says he's enjoying spending more time with his family, and on the golf course.
