Bishop calls for more farm folks in Washington

TIFT CO., GA (WALB) - At today's farm show in Tifton, U. S. Representative Sanford Bishop said fewer members of Congress are standing up for farmers.

He says many of the 435 people who serve in the House of Representatives now come from suburban or urban areas and don't understand the needs of agricultural areas.   He says one of the issues farmers are facing now is caps on support they can get.

"When you put a cap on the farm support that they can get, at a certain level, and they are growing multiple crops,  at different times of the year, it places us at a great disadvantage," said Bishop.

Bishop encourages more people who have an agricultural background to run for office.
