ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Westover High School's head basketball coach is back on the sidelines after serving a five day suspension without pay for flushing a player's marijuana down a toilet.

Dallis Smith admitted that he got rid of the pot instead of reporting it to authorities when the team was at a hotel in Statesboro during a tournament on December 28th.

Smith was also suspended after there were allegations of bullying during another team trip in 2014.

School system officials said Smith used poor judgment, but they defended the decision to let him keep his job.

"We know that Dr. Mosely is first and foremost concerned with the health and welfare of our students, but at the same time he is fair. Again, any case that they do will be looked at on an individual basis," said DCSS Spokesman J.D. Sumner.

The investigation was turned over to police in Statesboro and the student was kicked off the team.

The superintendent also reprimanded Principal William Chunn for failing to let district administrators know about what happened.
