Albany Weightlifting Hall of Fame celebrates proud history

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany's proud weightlifting history will be celebrated Saturday night.
Ten new members will be inducted during the Second Annual Albany Weightlifting Hall of Fame Banquet.
Last year 30 men and women were inducted, including 1976 Olympic Silver Medalist Lee James.
Organizers say Albany weightlifters inspired many of today's fitness enthusiasts.

Hall Of Famer Tony Powell said "And it's such a big history here from back in the 60's and the 70's.  And we have people who were weightlifting pioneers and then people who competed, and made a significant impact in the weightlifting community."

The banquet will be Saturday at 6 P-M at the Nelson Tift Building on West Broad Avenue.
Tickets are $20 and are available at Tony's Gym.

More than 400 people attended last year, and they expect a bigger gathering this year.
