Two arrested for drugs outside Nicholls convenience store

NICHOLLS, GA (WALB) -

About 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, a Nicholls Police officer saw two men who he thought were suspicious at the Food Mart Store on Van Street Highway.

He asked them for ID and if they had drugs or weapons.

Jeffery Nathaniel Canady, 52, of Nicholls, had a small piece of suspected crack cocaine, and small bag of marijuana in his pocket.

Mathew Lee Baughman, 34, of Nicholls, had four yellows tablets in his pocket.

DCDU was called and took over the investigation, and determined the tablets were Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone 325mg/10mg.  The tablets are a schedule two controlled substance.

Canady was charged with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marijuana less than ounce. Baughman was charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

"I want to thank Chief Merritt, his officers and the officers of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office in this continued effort to remove the drugs from our community," said Coffee County Sheriff Doyle Wooten.
