State lawmakers debate tasers on college campuses

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Georgia legislator is proposing a new bill that would allow electroshock weapons like tasers on college campuses in the state.
College campuses in Georgia are supposed to be gun-free zones, but some lawmakers have tried to allow college students to carry handguns.

One student says she thinks it's a good idea.

“Since I walk a lot and I don't have the transportation sometimes I get caught walking at night and I'm walking by myself so it would be safe for me to carry one. And probably other people as well who don't drive and have to walk,” says Sharmaine Mathis.

Legislation to allow college students to carry pistols on campus is still popular among some lawmakers.

They're waiting for an opportunity to revive that bill later this legislative session.
