MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - The Colquitt County Health Department is making an effort to prevent child deaths from car crashes, one car seat at a time.
They received a mini grant from the Georgia Department of Public Health's Injury Prevention Program, which will provide free car seats to families unable to buy them for their kids.
Child Health Nurse Zezda Lee says many parents don't realize that different seats are appropriate for different-sized children, and that all seats have expiration dates.
"People feel like they are in car seats correctly and that they have their children restrained correctly, but most of them do not," said Lee. "And that's how a lot of the accidents happen."
