MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Officials at the Colquitt County Jail are making a concerted effort to cut down on drugs and cellphones smuggled inside the facility.

Lieutenant Rod Howell says they've seen a large amount of contraband getting beyond guard lines. In the past two months, they've confiscated 30 cell phones plus cigarettes and marijuana.

One of their major efforts is to step up security, by installing new surveillance cameras around the jail.

"We're trying to get full-staffed.  That will make a big difference.  And changing our way of doing things. They're hear 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they learn our routine. We just have to change up things," said Lt. Rod Howell of the Colquitt County Jail.

The guard lines now have signs that let visitors know they could be searched when they come into the facility.
