A student at Monroe High School has a chance to be chosen the outstanding student at Albany Technical College.
Brittani Whitehead has been dual enrolled for three semesters, and says being chosen as a GOAL finalist at Albany Tech is a great honor.
Brittani Whitehead stays pretty busy between her regular classes at Monroe, plus the other courses she takes at Albany Tech.
Her trusty planner keeps her on track and lets her know what's due so she doesn't fall behind because things can get pretty busy.
"Early mornings, late nights, a lot of work. A lot of stress, but at the end of the day I know it will be worth it," says Junior Brittani Whitehead.
Whitehead is one of about 60 students at Monroe who participate in dual-enrollment. She says it's a great opportunity to further her education right now.
"At first I thought like wow I want to go, I have to go. It's like a free education before I get out into the real world," says Whitehead.
And her dedication got her selected as the only dual-enrolled student chosen as a finalist at Albany Tech in the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership program.
She's been practicing her speech she'll have to give in front of a panel of judges. Her mom tells us she's very proud.
"I'm just so proud of Brittani, I'm a proud mom," says Tammie Whitehead.
And Brittani says she's learned a lot from this experience.
"Well I've learned that anything is possible and as long as you have goals and dreams and you put your mind to it, you can do it," says Brittani Whitehead.
The local panel will choose the Albany Tech winner later this month who will go on to a statewide competition. The state winner will get a car and will represent the Technical College System of Georgia for a year.
