Police dog helps collar robbery suspect

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Police say it was a right-time, right-place sort of coincidence that led to a four-legged officer capturing a robber.

Officer Jason York and his canine partner Roxy tracked and captured 24-year-old Marin Pettiford Tuesday morning.
Witnesses told police that Pettiford snatched a bank bag and cell phones from two workers at a Valdosta mall store. Luckily, York was parked right across the street when the call came in.

"Sometimes you get lucky.  Sometimes you just happen to be at the right place at the right time.  Doesn't happen often.  But when it does, you appreciate it very much," said Lt. Kari Williams of the Valdosta Police Department.

Roxy caught up with Pettiford and bit him.

Pettiford is charged with three counts of robbery by sudden snatching and one count of misdemeanor Obstruction of an officer.
