ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

“I was in the house and I heard like a big boom, a big bang, like something was blowing up,” says East Albany resident Shanika Jackson.

City workers were busy all afternoon clearing the intersection of Cason Street and Oglethorpe Boulevard after a driver crashed into a utility pole.

Albany Police said that a Ford F-150 driven by 38-year-old Richard Windham veered off the road and into the median, and jumped the curb, and struck three utility poles, splitting one in half.

A traffic signal hit the road.

One man who was working across the street said it was very loud.

“It was really loud. Went it went off it shook the whole building, all the glass in the building,” says Robert Potter, with Potter Motor Company.

Windham was transported to the hospital by EMS.

The intersection was reopened at 8:15 p.m.
