ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The next phase of major commercial development is underway across Albany.
Crews began demolition at the former Best Value Motel on North Slappey Blvd. Tuesday.
There was no immediate word on what the demolition was clearing the way for, but it's one of many projects across the city.
Demolition of the former Bank of America building began Monday, as crews begin work to redevelop that property on the corner of Dawson Road and North Westover Blvd.
The new demolition comes on the heels of groundbreaking of a new Cheddar's restaurant planned to open next to Sam's Club on North Westover, as well as the demolition of the old Friedman's Clothing building on the same road.
Restaurants including Panera Bread, Five Guys, Burgers and Fries, and Chipotle Mexican Grill are rumored for the newly demolished Bank of America land.
A new Starbucks location across the street opened its doors for the first time in September.
Across town, a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on North Slappey Blvd. will have its grand opening on January 20, just seven months after construction began.
The new Walmart brings a new stoplight with it to handle increased traffic in the area.
