Alma shooting investigation changes to drug bust

ALMA, GA (WALB) -

Alma Police responded to a shooting on the 100 block of Briteblue Drive about 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Marcus Batton had been shot several times. His wife, April Batton, had been badly beaten. Marcus Batton’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

According to police, the victims said the shooters were demanding money during the assault. One the suspects, who's name has not yet been released, was arrested shortly after the information was provided.

While searching for the remaining suspects, APD discovered a wanted fugitive was located at the Days Inn in Alma. In addition to locating the fugitive, officers discovered over two ounces of marijuana packaged for sale, over a dozen Tramadol tablets, and $9,900.

Shanique Morgan, 21, of Alma was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. 23-year-old Marcelle Jenkins of Alma was arrested on a battery warrant, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
