THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia woman says her dog found a human skull right next door to her house.

Jennifer Hatcher says while her son was out chasing their dog  "Sport" he found a human skull. Investigators confirmed that they found a human skull sitting right next door to Hatcher's home in Thomasville.

Hatcher says her 17 yr. old son Coleman brought the skull home because he thought it would make a great Halloween decoration.

"He went to go get the dog to bring the dog back home and that's when he saw it, just sitting there," said Jennifer Hatcher.

As soon as Hatcher picked up the skull she noticed that it was real. That's when Hatcher called the Thomas County Sheriff's Office.

Investigator Tim Watkins said, "It may be something that someone had at their house and it became abandoned... it may be an old grave that dogs dug up... we don't know and that's what we're trying to determine."

Hatcher says someone discovered bones nearby twenty five years ago.

Hatcher added,"I heard a couple years ago they found a skeleton on the same property and if they would've searched it the skull is just sitting there, if its so easy for my dog and my son to find it how could they miss a whole skull?"

Thomas County investigators say they are sending the human skull to the anthropology department at Florida State to determine the identity.
