Ocmulgee River continues to cause flooding in Abbeville

ABBEVILLE, GA (WALB) -

The river, initially expected to reach major flood level, is now expected to crest at 17.6 feet Wednesday.

The Ocmulgee River is currently at 17.5 feet and several homes around half moon landing have water under them. Residents haven't seen this much water since the Flood of 1994.

"I tell you it's sad. But ain't nothing we can do about Mother Nature. Just hope it can go down so that people can get to their houses like they should," said Howard Maddox.

The river should slowly recede for the next several days towards the moderate flood stage at 14 feet.
