THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Police warn that firing gunshots in the air is illegal and will arrest anyone who discharges a firearm on New Year's Eve.
They say firing gunshots in the air can cause someone to get seriously hurt.
"We don't know where the ammo may land, where the bullet may travel to, and it can hurt someone or injure them or even kill them, so we want to make sure that people are safe. And it is against the law to fire a firearm in the city of Thomasville," warned Major Eric Hampton with Thomasville Police.
Officials say police will arrest any offenders immediately.
