THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Officials say using internet search engines to find sex offenders in your area, may not give you the correct information.

Thomas County Investigators say they had several people who found the wrong address of sex offenders using websites instead of the Sheriff's Office site. Investigators say this can be dangerous, leading residents to believe mistakenly that there are sex offenders in their area.

"Some cannot live next to churches, some cannot live next to parks, any place where children gather we want to make sure they do not live in those locations that why we want to make sure we have the most accurate information," said Investigator Tim Watkins.

If you are trying to locate a sex offender in your area, you're encouraged to visit your sheriff's office website on the online G.B.I sex offender registry.
