Cordele robbery suspect killed in Florida shoot-out

CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

A man that Crisp County authorities suspected in multiple Cordele robberies was shot and killed by law enforcement in Florida.

Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock says that 29 year old Michael Hilber was involved in the robberies of Subway and O’Reilly’s in December in Cordele, and that two days before Christmas, he got into a shootout with police in Brooksville Florida, and was killed.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement notified Hancock of armed robberies of Subway and Dollar General Stores in Hernando County, Florida. Similarities to the  Cordele robberies were striking.

On Tuesday, December 23, 2015, authorities in Brooksville Florida responded to an armed robbery 911 call at the Dollar General in Ridge Manor West.

One of the suspects was apprehended without incident, however the second suspect, Hilber, was shot and killed by law enforcement, and positive ID was made.

Detective Ketorie Sales with the Cordele Police Department confirms the vehicle and clothing items recovered by the Hernando County, Florida Sheriff’s Office matches the description provided at the time of the incident.
