City closes streets for flooding

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Cherry Laurel Lane, in South East Albany near the river, was closed by Wednesday morning when water covered the pavement. 

Some Beachview Drive residents are concerned about rising water, but that street is still open.

Here are the City and County Street Closures reported as of Wednesday afternoon-


City Streets:
South Jackson- Gowan to Oakridge
Mercer and Front (rear of the Civic Center)
100 block of Hilsman at Barbre
500 block of Porter

County Streets:
Skywater at Azalea
2400 block of Cherry Laurel 

The Albany/Dougherty Emergency Operations Center is now back open and staffed 24 hours a day. Representatives from many city and county departments and all the public safety agencies are there monitoring developments and ready to respond to emergencies.
    
Officials even went door to door in some flood-prone areas today to tell residents what they should expect. If you have any problems or questions, you can call the EOC at  483-6226 or 483-6227.
