Police search for fleeing driver possibly involved in armed robbery

CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Police are working to see if a man involved in a chase with the sheriff is one of two armed robbers who hit a drug store last night.

Two men robbed the CVS on 16th Avenue around 9:45 Monday night. Shortly after, Sheriff Billy Hancock noticed a suspicious car and got behind it.

When the car sped up, Sheriff Hancock chased it. At least one person jumped out of the car and ran away.

Police say the clothes the men were wearing walking up to the store should have alerted anyone who saw them.

“People in their vehicles, people that live in the areas, to look out for this kind of situation. When you see people wearing jackets and gloves in 80° weather, that should say something. And we really need a phone call when that happens,” said Sgt. Jeremy Taylor with the Cordele Police Department.

Investigators have identified the driver, but they have not announced any arrests.
