Lake Blackshear water level stabilizes

WARWICK, GA (WALB) - Crisp County Power Commission officials say the level at the Lake Blackshear dam is rising very slowly, but the Northern section has remained essentially the same for a couple of hours.

The current level at the Dam is 236.10, which is about 10 inches below normal, but the areas above the Highway 280 Bridge remain above normal pool.

The Commission has closed half of one gate to slightly, reduce outflow.

They will monitor the effects both upstream and downstream, and based on the results, will decide on further gate closures, according to General Manager Steve Rentfrow.

Getting all the gates closed will be a slow process over several days.  The Flint River at the Montezuma gauge site crested Sunday, but the level has only fallen a little over one foot since that time.

Residents are urged to use caution around waters, which will be flowing swifter than normal.
