Habersham Road fire called part of 'suicide attempt'

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Firefighters say a woman tried to set a house on fire after attempting to harm herself.

It happened at a home in the 2500 block of Habersham Road, near the Albany airport.

Albany Police said the house was on fire when officers arrived, and the woman, who was not immediately named, was standing outside holding a knife.

Officers were able to convince her to put the knife down, and emergency crews were able to take her to the hospital for what they said were minor injuries.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, and said several pieces of furniture inside the home were damaged.

Police said charges were pending in the case.
