FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - People in Ben Hill County came together for a night of prayer to kick off the New Year.
Monday night, people in Ben Hill County bow their heads in prayer, calling for unity among Christians across the nation.
"To unite the churches around our community to be able to come together in prayer," said Andy Harper, Organizer.
Deacon Andy Harper from Arbor Baptist Church put on the event as a continuation of the prayer vigil held in Douglas back in August.
"We are here to ask the Lord to guide and protect our leaders of authority and also to continue to bless our great nation," said Harper.
They read scriptures and sang. Many held onto the American flag as they prayed for the nation, our leaders and families.
"I believe that Christians over the whole world need to stand up," said Sammy Smith.
"We're calling out to God in one voice and one mind and one heart asking God to show us his will and direction of our country," said Harper.
They even formed prayer circles, holding hands as they called for unity.
"We're just reminding the world that Jesus is still the only hope and the only answer for every problem in life," said Harper.
"Like the old shy dog soldiers," said Smith. "We drove a steak in the ground and tie ourselves to it and make a stand and that's why I'm here."
Here, hoping to get 2016 off to a Godly start in Ben Hill County.
