CRISP CO., GA (WALB) - The Crisp County Power Commission has opened gates on the dam at Lake Blackshear to help catch some of the water coming from the north.
Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock said officials are watching the flooding to the north very carefully. The CCPC has lowered the lake overnight in anticipation of the water coming downstream.
The National Weather Service is calling for increased potential for moderate flooding on the Flint River next week.
The current prediction is that the lake may rise high enough for water to come up in backyards, though no major problems are anticipated.
The Sheriff's Office and CCPC are continuing to monitor the situation. The time frame will be sometime on Monday when the peak is expected to occur.
