Horace Barber Junior is arrested and in jail for raping his cousin

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

"I have to deny all 3 of your charges," said Judge George Lilly.

A judge denied bond for Horace Barber Junior who is charged with raping his cousin. Police say he turned himself in last night after receiving pressure from family members and law enforcement.

"The pressure was on Mr. Barber whether he was going to turn himself in or he was going to be found in a matter of fact short of time," said Captain Maurice Holmes.

Barber is accused of raping a woman last Saturday. She was walking in an alley around 1 in the morning.  Police say Barber grabbed her from behind... dragged her into an abandoned house and raped her.  They say shortly after the attack, Barber realized the woman is his cousin.  Investigators say Barber may have raped before.

Holmes added, "It's determined that more events such as this have occurred in other jurisdictions here in South Georgia so there are possible further or more charges pending on this individual."

Barber is charged with rape, kidnapping, and aggravated assault.  If convicted, he could be sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.
